BASIC FAMILY NEEDS
“One-on-One” Family Support
Sponsored by First 5 Kern, we offer support to families with young children, ages 0-5. These case management services include monthly home visits to bring needed supplies (such as diapers and food), monitor children’s development through the Ages and Stages questionnaire, and provide education through the Nurturing Parenting program. We connect our case-managed families with available resources, including rental and utility assistance; health insurance, cash aid, and food stamps applications and advocacy; medical and behavioral health referrals; Toys for Tots and holiday meal programs; Head Start referrals and preschool scholarships; and other programs as they become available. |
Utility Assistance
Our advocates can connect community members with assistance for gas, electric, propane, and water utilities, including when they are in threat of termination. We can also assist with submitting requests for weatherization services as well as applications for the SoCal Edison CARE program for low-income individuals and families. |
Assistance with Confidential Matters
Our advocates are trained in privacy and confidentiality procedures in order to help you with sensitive matters. We will never share your information except as needed to assist you and only with your written consent. |
Crisis Intervention
The Center provides referrals for crisis intervention services, including domestic violence support, shelters, restraining order information, and legal assistance. Our advocates can also assist in reporting cases of suspected child and elder abuse. |
Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EF&S) Once per year low-income families with children, seniors and permanently disabled individuals can receive assistance with rent or mortgage, utilities, prescriptions and food. These funds are to help community members during unexpected emergencies and crises. |
