The Mountain Communities Family Resource Center is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to serving the Frazier Mountain Communities, one individual and family at a time. We help people from all walks of life to ensure that they have food, shelter, insurance, and the education they need to thrive. We have a special focus on the most vulnerable in our community -- from young children to individuals with disabilities to low-income seniors -- but are continually seeking new ways to uplift the community as a whole. Through collaborations with schools, healthcare workers, local business owners, and county agencies, we work to enhance the quality of life for all mountain residents. It's community support that enables us to continue, so thank you!

Our History

In 1997, a group of concerned citizens and El Tejon Unified school employees joined together to assess the unmet needs of our community. With an eye to helping our children get a positive start in life, we applied for a state Healthy Start planning grant with El Tejon Unified School District acting as our fiscal agent. Through surveys, focus groups, and community discussions, we identified several key focus areas that could improve life on the hill. After being awarded a Healthy Start operational grant, we opened our doors to the community in 1999.

Since then the name has changed to the Mountain Communities Family Resource Center (MCFRC) but our purpose has remained the same. The Center seeks to improve quality of life for all residents of the mountain communities by connecting individuals and families with a variety of local, county, and state resources. In 2011, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization was started to increase eligibility for grants and further support the community.

We continue to focus heavily on giving our children and youth a happy, healthy start but have also expanded our services to further assist seniors, individuals with disabilities, unsheltered residents, and other adults. While we continue to value support from the El Tejon Unified School District as one of our Collaborative Partners, we amicably separated from the School District in July 2020 to become a standalone community-based nonprofit.
